Bal Folk

A performance of authentic folk dances from the Urbino countryside prepared specifically for the Festival and born from the collaboration between “Quelli delle danza popolari di Urbino” and the “Viva el Ball!” association.

The folk dances and music, presented here to the public for the first time, come from fifteen years of ethnochoreutic research on the last witnesses of the Urbino area and are assembled together trying to recreate the atmosphere of the country vigils of the past where the real protagonists, beyond the ancient dances such as the Furlana, the Saltarello and the Manfrina, were in reality precisely the “Game Dances” for cohesion, the joy and regenerative force they knew how to create within the various communities of the village (the Garnatello Ball, the Sigh Ball, the Spaccafilone, the Chair Ball, the Gobbi Ball, the Furlana with the fiasco…).

Another reason of great interest is the extraordinary musical and choreographic relationship between the traditions of the northern Marche and those of the Veneto, such as Furlana, Mandarina, Paroncina…
