Quelli delle danze popolari di Urbino
The group “Quelli delle danze popolari di Urbino” was founded in the late ’90s under the name “Anima populi”. Over time, the group grew to welcome musicians and dancers from Urbino and beyond, becoming “Quelli delle danze popolari” fifteen years ago, right in the spirit of the balfolk tradition.
Balfolk dances are a collection of traditional European dances—primarily French and Western European—practiced today in social gatherings known precisely as “bal folk”. These are not formal performances, but moments of sharing where anyone can join in, even with no prior experience. They are danced in pairs, circles, or groups to live or recorded music, often played on acoustic instruments like the accordion, violin, and hurdy-gurdy. The atmosphere is informal and inclusive: the main goal isn’t performance, but the joy of dancing together, socializing, and keeping folk traditions alive in a modern way, bringing together children, young adults, and the young at heart.
