Gens d'Ys

Gens d’Ys has been the heart of Irish dance in Italy for 33 years—since back in 1993, when a group of friends in the province of Varese decided to learn how to dance reels, jigs, and hornpipes.

Dedication, technique, a touch of madness, and above all an overwhelming passion for Ireland and Celtic lands have led them, generation after generation, to perform across every corner of Italy, teaching classes for all levels in 28 Italian cities. Their Celtic dance workshops guarantee fun for everyone, even those who have never dared to take a single step.

The academy’s current show troupe brings to the stage a rich repertoire of Irish dance styles: from light, soaring slip jigs to rhythmic, unison choreography in “heavy” shoes—the ancestors of tap shoes—all punctuated by frequent costume changes. In the spirit of hit shows like Riverdance and Lord of the Dance, and blending fusion, Highland dances, and even flamenco, Gens d’Ys will sweep you away on a journey to discover Irish dance: you won’t be able to keep your feet still!
