The most precious good, drinkable water, was once procured by women. They transported it on their heads with great ability, in a terracotta container: in the Lazio region it’s still called “cannata”. A display of strength and balance that is today one of the most important traditional competitions of the Palio of Gonfalone di Arpino (FR) where the women and girls from the city’s roads and neighborhoods challenge one another each summer on a 280m track. At the game station you’ll find Associazione Pro Loco of Arpino, ready to tell you the story, anecdotes and charm of this ancient practice.
