Zugo de l'Ovo

There is a moment when the game becomes lighter, but the tension remains high: it is the Zugo de l’Ovo, a historic tradition from Sezano, a small community in Valpantena, which has celebrated the art of the perfect throw every year since the post-war period.

The rules are simple, but the outcome is anything but predictable: mixed pairs of all ages challenge each other by tossing a raw egg, relying only on the grip of their hands. After each exchange, they take one step back. The egg’s flight becomes a delicate balance of trust, complicity, and a touch of madness. All it takes is a throw that is a little too strong, a moment of hesitation, or a missed catch for the egg to break, to the surprise and laughter of everyone watching.

The winner is the pair that manages to reach the end with the egg still intact. But the true value of the challenge lies not only in victory: the Zugo de l’Ovo is above all an opportunity to come together, share a moment of celebration, and preserve a tradition born in the 1950s and proudly passed down through courtyards, fields, and village festivals.

On Saturday 20th, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm, the official competition will take place; from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm, everyone will have the chance to join in and try their hand at the game.
