Jogo do Emboca

Azorean game of purely male origin, the “Jogo do Emboca” is played on sunny Sundays, in spring and summer. The practice involves two bowls and a block of wood and an iron hoop. The aim of the game is to pass the bowls through the iron circle according to well-established rules. Pastime of ancient origins, today its transmission is at risk of disappearing due to the lack of knowledge related to the choice of noble wood suitable for the construction of gaming instruments.
