The most precious resource of all, drinking water, was once carried by women, who, with remarkable skill, balanced a heavy terracotta vessel on their heads. In the Lazio region, this traditional water jar is known as the cannata, a symbol of an everyday gesture that sustained community life for centuries.

Among the gentle hills of Ciociaria, this ancient custom lives on today through an exciting speed competition, transforming a task once born of necessity into a test of balance and skill. Every step reflects the deep connection between people, the land, and a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation.

Thanks to the dedication of the Associazione Pro Loco Arpino, this heritage continues to thrive, paying tribute to the women who, with strength and determination, walked the region’s paths carrying life’s most precious resource: water.
