What could be more abstract and rational than a chessboard?
And yet it moves us emotionally, evoking the atmosphere of castles surrounded by moats, defending kings and queens. The ancestors of modern chess were born in India in the 6th century and arrived in Europe around the year 1000. In addition to being the most popular strategy game in the world, chess is a democratic pastime: to play, age, gender, or social status do not matter.

Since the beginning of the war between Russia and Ukraine, AGA and UNICEF have joined forces to promote peace through play. Chess is proof that competition does not have to turn into conflict if it is approached with intelligence and respect. While battlefields divide people, the chessboard brings them together: the game becomes a symbol of shared values and cultural exchange.
Peace, like chess, requires vision, patience, and sacrifice. This initiative offers an alternative to conflict through the values of the game, with an eye on the future of communities.
