Traditional Games and Sports
In this 23rd edition of Tocatì, Aotearoa—the land of the long white cloud—meets Italy of courtyards and squares. Māori games arrive at Tocatì not as mere guests, but as voices of a culture that, like ours, has entrusted memory, gestures, rituals, and community to play.
Among sticks, strings, spinning tops, and challenges of reflex and intuition, these games tell us stories of ancestors, stars, respect, and movement. Not just performances, but shared little ceremonies where every rule holds a value and every form is a bond.
And just as happens in our traditional games, in Māori ones too the body becomes storytelling, and the time of play turns into time of connection. At Tocatì, the two traditions watch, listen, and enter into dialogue—to discover that sometimes the most distant roots can speak with a single gesture.
