What makes a city grow? What drives its transformation over time?
Behind every street, park, or neighborhood, there is a precise direction at work: it’s called urban planning. This discipline envisions and designs the city of the future, deciding where new infrastructure, green spaces, services, housing, and industrial zones will take shape.

The main actor in this grand direction is the Master Plan, a massive map that shows us what the city is supposed to become. But as we know, there’s often a big gap between plans and reality! Many times, those plans remain on paper and never fully materialize in the urban fabric.

And here’s where it gets interesting: by comparing the various Master Plans of the 20th century,  a time when Verona experienced significant growth, with the city as it is today, countless differences immediately come to light.

With “Spot the Differences,” we’ll have fun doing exactly that: exploring the parts of Verona that were planned but never built. It’s a playful way to imagine an alternative city and reflect on how (and how much) these “non-transformations” have shaped our everyday lives.

Over the course of two days, expert architects and urban planners will guide visitors through this journey across maps, helping them uncover the discrepancies with present-day Verona and encouraging an open, creative dialogue about how cities are, or aren’t, built.
