Alentejano singing originated as a melody sung to coordinate the efforts of the campinos, guardians of bulls in the region of Alentejo, literally ‘beyond the Tejo’ (the Portuguese river Tagus). Recognised as a UNESCO heritage in 2014, we can listen to it at Tocatì with ‘Le Cantadeiras da Essência Alentejana’, an allfemale choral group.
