Already in 1555 the Trattato del Giuoco con la Palla treatise cited the “ball with the racket”, an ancestor of the Tamburello game, recognized in 1890 by the Italian Gymnastics Federation. It’s played with the tamburello: a wooden circular frame over which a cover of animal skin or a synthetic cloth is tightly stretched to stand the strain of the rubber ball’s hits. It’s played both in the open, with 2 teams of 5 players each, and indoors, with 2 teams of 3 players each. The city committee FIPT Verona, one of Tocatì’s guests, is formed of around 600 card-carrying athletes divided in 70 teams who participate to championships of several categories, both male and female.
