Already in 1555 the Trattato del Giuoco con la Palla (lit. “Treaty of Ball Games”) cites the “ball with the racket”, an ancestor of Tamburello, a game recognized in 1890 by Federazione Ginnastica d’Italia. The tamburello is an animal skin or synthetic cloth able to bear the stress of the rubber ball, stretched over a wooden ring. It can be played both in the open air, 2 teams of 5 players each, and indoors, 2 teams of 3 players each. At Tocatì the game is presented by the lake community of Bardolino sul Garda; the provincial committee FIPT Verona consists of around 600 athletes divided in 70 teams who participate to male and female championships.
