“In the February of 1975 Marco Cavallo went around the roads of Trieste. It was a light blue horse, made with wood and papier mâché in an asylum, as a symbol of the need for freedom and the right to life of those committed. The making of the horse wanted to represent the making of a recognizable symbol, which was devised based on the story of the asylum of Trieste itself, where a real horse named Marco pulled the bags of wash and was loved by all the patients…” Which city better than Verona could host, 40 years later, the new festive parade of Marco Cavallo, followed by the Maching Stomp Band, by Giuliano Scabia, who has accompanied the creation of this myth every step of the way with his narrations, by Peppe dell’Acqua, the psychiatrist who worked for years with Franco Basaglia to dismantle the Psychiatric Hospital of Trieste and to implement Law N. 180, and by the many “Veronesi tuti mati…” (lit. “crazy Veronese people”) both grown-ups and children who at 3pm of Saturday, September 15 th will parade with Marco from Sant’Anastasia.
