Breton wrestling is a noble art born during the migrations of the IV century to prepare for war combat. In the course of time it spread among the population until it became an official sport in 1980 with the creation of Fédération de Gouren (lit. “Gouren Federation”) which currently counts 1600 card-carrying members. What makes this sport even more fascinating is the presence of the oath recited by wrestlers before challenging one another, which emphasises the value of respecting the opponent. It’s a practice that speaks of strength, spirit and honesty and that continues to win people over with no distinctions of gender or age.
